ABOUT
OUR TEAM
The Global Health Collaborative Project (GHCP) is a multidisciplinary and inter-institutional volunteer organization developed in order to improve patient health outcomes in rural Honduras. Institutions currently involved in our project include Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Florida State University (FSU), and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). The diverse disciplines represented from these institutions include allopathic and osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, public health, nursing, engineering, social work, and undergraduate studies .

The primary objective of GHCP is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the health needs of the population in rural Honduras while at the same time engaging with this population to learn more about their culture in addition to understanding their strengths. We plan to implement culturally cognizant, thoroughly researched interventions after receiving stakeholder buy-in. The program's interdisciplinary approach generates opportunities for multidimensional interventions aimed at enhancing patient care, mitigating potential harms, and addressing various acute and chronic conditions in a manner that is culturally acceptable, feasible, scalable, and sustainable.

The secondary objective is to provide an enriching experience within the realm of Global Health by equipping students and faculty with ample opportunities for publications, grant writing, poster presentations at national conferences, leadership development and scholarships. Supplementary to highlighting available academic opportunities, faculty create educational sessions for both faculty and students to enhance their research skills in global health. Examples of presented topics include biostatistics, critical literature review, effective manuscript writing, journal searching, and other informational presentations at Grand Rounds.
